What shapes girls’ interest in technology? Why do some young women choose ICT pathways while others turn away from them? And what can educators, organisations and policymakers do to create more inclusive opportunities?
A new HER TECH video offers a concise introduction to the project and the challenges it seeks to address.
Across Europe, women remain underrepresented in many areas of ICT education and technology careers. While progress has been made, gender stereotypes, confidence gaps, limited visibility of role models and unequal learning experiences continue to influence participation in the sector.
HER TECH brings together universities, educators, researchers and organisations from across Europe to better understand these challenges and identify effective ways to support girls and women in technology. Through research, interviews, case studies and collaboration with stakeholders, the project explores both the barriers that discourage participation and the factors that help girls engage, persist and succeed in ICT.
The video presents the project’s mission and highlights the importance of creating learning environments where girls feel welcome, supported and empowered to explore technology on their own terms.
As the project continues, HER TECH will develop practical resources, recommendations and educational tools aimed at helping educators and organisations foster more inclusive pathways into ICT.
