How can we create learning environments where more girls feel confident to explore technology, develop their skills, and see a future in ICT?
To help answer this question, the HER TECH project has developed the HER TECH Gender-Sensitive Engagement Framework – a practical, evidence-based resource designed to support educators, schools, organisations, and policymakers in creating more inclusive technology education.
Developed through research conducted across Europe, the framework brings together key findings from literature, interviews, and case studies to identify the factors that encourage girls to engage with ICT. Rather than focusing only on technical skills, it highlights four interconnected dimensions that shape meaningful and lasting engagement: Access, Belonging, Recognition and Progression.
The framework offers practical guidance for creating learning environments where girls feel welcomed, supported, recognised, and inspired to continue their journey in technology.
To make the framework even more accessible, the HER TECH partnership has also produced a short animated explainer video that introduces its four dimensions and shows how they work together to support girls’ participation in ICT.
Whether you are an educator, school leader, policymaker, or simply passionate about building a more inclusive digital future, we invite you to explore the framework and watch the accompanying video.
